Placed at 130km east of Montevideo, capital of the Uruguay Republic, it is located between the 34º & 35º degreees of latitude south, covering the coasts of the River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean.

Punta del Este belongs to Departamento de Maldonado (Maldonado County), which occupies roughly 4705 square kilometers . Its scenery is predominantly hills that end in the sea, forming numerous rocky points and peninsulas, that, together with its inmense and various beaches and woods, give a unique beautiful natural environment.

The area is also known for its huge lagoons: "Del Sauce", "Del Diario"; "Blanca", "José Ignacio" y "Garzón", each one with distinctive qualities for the practice of various sports.
As a result of this natural landscape, which combines beaches, hills and forests, this location is also seen as ideal for the practice of adventure tourism or include visits to the tipical "estancias".

Today Punta del Este has a permanent population of 8000 inhabitants, and receives during the summer months more than 200.000 tourists that arrive by either private yachts, private planes, ferrys or regular airlines. It also has an international airport.
